Businesses have struggled with file backup for a lot of years. Awkward tape drives and standard office backup software have been their weapons of choice to fight data loss, with some implementing SAN and NAS into their resistance. A lot of companies still use these systems, but many find they are far from ideal when it comes to recovering their files quickly and with ease. These were, however, a vital stepping stone needed to bring forth the development of cloud storage; a much simpler and efficient way of dealing with data backup.

Many business directors have one question on their mind when it comes to cloud storage—and nowadays it’s not whether they need it. It tends to be ‘What cloud storage is best for my business?’

What a great question. And an important one too, for only a fool would sign up with the first vendor he were to come across. There are many things to be considered, but for now we’ll focus on the main four.

Automated Scheduled Backup – Workplace data doesn’t deserve to be backed up every now and then—and definitely not manually (people forget!). If you’re serious about cloud storage, you should choose a vendor who offers a variety of control options, enabling you to set backups for at least every twelve hours, if not more. The more, the better.

Unlimited Storage – A lot of vendors offer you a variety of different storage packages. But how much do you really need? Businesses can avoid this dilemma by simply cutting it out and going for unlimited.

File Sharing, Collaboration, and Syncing – This all depends on the business itself. Frequent travellers within the company will appreciate these features if it suits their needs.

Data Encryption – This is an absolute must. If you don’t have a decent level of encryption running when you’re uploading and transferring your files, then how do you know how safe they are? This is one not to be overlooked.

If cloud storage is treated like any other important decision that needs to be made within business, in the short and long term it can abolish the need for worrying about backup altogether.

It has been revealed that 37% of computer users feel they are protected from hard drive viruses, malware, corruption, and failure. This select group of people feel that in the event of a tragedy such as this, they can either personally or professionally recover years and years of data. The truth is that personal recovery, though attempted with the best of intentions, can end disastrously. In fact, when a novice, or even a veteran user, attempts hard drive recovery, they are running a high risk of actually creating even more damage to their hard drive, meaning that in the end they’re just digging themselves deeper into their problems.

But what about hiring a professional? This is of course another road to take. But even if it is, it needs to also be known that nothing is for certain. There is still a chance your data will be lost forever. And the chances are, unless you are very lucky, you will get a bill in the post for this person’s efforts. There is the possibility that success can be found, yes. But the problem is not only that it could take some time, but is mainly that it could cost you up to $7500—and if not less, certainly hundreds. This is where cloud storage enters.

Cloud storage could save you the price of stress, worry, and a lot of your hard earned cash. It’s affordable for everyone, offers government standard security, and is accessible anytime. Don’t run the risk. Protect your files with cloud storage now!

We’ve all made mistakes we wish we hadn’t; left our wallets somewhere or missed out on that last minute eBay bargain, but I’m pretty confident in saying no-one reading this will have made a mistake worth just under $35bn. How is this possible? Well it’s come to light in the last few days that the little-known third founder of Apple, Ronald Wayne, sold his 10% share in the company for the grand sum of $800. Wayne’s forgotten share in the tech goliath is now worth £35bn, 44 million times more than it was in 1976. Perhaps the most unfortunate man in business history doesn’t view this as bad decision though by saying he did the right thing leaving Apple! ‘If I’d stayed with them, I’d have ended up the richest man in the cemetery,’ he said, and if he can keep upbeat then nobody has an excuse to feel down!

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past 24 hours you will of course know about the release of the heavily anticipated iPhone 4s/5 (whatever)

My initial thoughts are; wow, i cant believe i got this excited about a phone that looks identical to the one that is situated on my desk right now. To say the least i am slightly disappointed with the new release. There was so much hype surrounding the 5, so many leaks about it’s appearance and so many rumours. I expected more, I wanted more, i wanted something sleeker and more sexier than the 4, something that we have come to expect from Apple.

Evidentially it is not just myself that was disappointed to see the new iPhone, Apple stocks plummeted last night, down 5% in a few hours. Apparently the city was not impressed either.

Nevertheless my inner geek is overjoyed at the prospect of a significantly improved camera and the rapid A5 dual-core processor. The 4s is reportedly 7 times faster than the 4 and that wasn’t exactly sluggish.

The interesting part of all this is amidst the disappointment lye’s the exact reason why Apple is so great. Apple is not just a creator of gorgeous pieces of technology, they are master craftsman of software. In this latest release, they been relentless in their scrutiny and enhancement of the software and have taken something that was already a world leading device and evolved it into something that no other company in the world can do. They have made the iPhone 4s of course.

Amazon has just launched the biggest rival to the Apple iPad – at just half the price of the top-selling tablet. It will run a version of Google’s Android operating system called “Amazon Silk” and looks similar to BlackBerry’s PlayBook tablet, however unlike the iPad, the Kindle Fire has no camera.

Up until this point Amazon has only been producing non colour devices designed for reading books and other mediums like newspapers and magazines. They are obviously primarily targeting competition with Apple but have many aspirations to target rival companies such as US based bookseller Barnes & Noble.

The device is expected to be available by early November and sales of the Kindle Fire are expected to be boosted by its price of $199 (£130) – much less than the cheapest iPad, which costs $499 (£319).

According to technology research firm Gartner, the iPad will account for 68.7% of the 69.7 million tablets sold this year. It will also remain the top-selling device over the next few years, potentially being a serious contender in the “tablet” market.
